Bay Area Futurist Sees Mass Transformation as Key to a Better Future

In contrast to most futurists who attempt to predict the future based on trends and research of past events, San Francisco futurist John Renesch likes to challenge people about what kind of future they want for themselves. As a keynote speaker, author of several books and many articles, he addresses the deep humanness of each of his readers or members of his audiences.

"Most people sit around and complain but don't see their own role in how the world is shaping up," he states. "Rarely do we allow ourselves to recognize that we are the ones who created the messes and we are the ones who can fix them. There has to be mass intention but it can be done," stresses Renesch whose latest book is titled Getting to the Better Future: A Matter of Conscious Choosing.

A longtime businessman who started and managed numerous enterprises in his earlier career, Renesch now spends most of his time as an advocate for claiming the power people have given away by allowing others to make their choices. "We have delegated responsibility for our future to politicians, lobbyists and the media much like we have delegated responsibility for our children's education to teachers. We forget who is ultimately responsible in a democracy – us! Even in our silence we condone the way things are and add legitimacy to all these leaders who are supposedly expert in what they do while we sit back and say nothing," Renesch said with great agitation. "When we wake up and recognize that just about every system humans have created is in some stage of breakdown right now – breakdown as in not fulfilling their intended purpose – we can start telling the truth, taking charge and demanding performance."

"If you follow the trends to predict the future, it looks pretty gloomy," offered the 66 year-old veteran entrepreneur. "Only through a major transformation in the way citizens take responsibility for their lives, their communities, their countries and their world will the future start looking better."

What are the odds of this mass transformation actually occurring before some of the global crises get too far out of control? Renesch feels there's a "decent chance" given all the private personal self-exploration that has been going on over the past forty years or so. "Once the tens of million of people decide to ‘come out of the closet' and openly exhibit the personal power they have been building up at "spiritual gymnasiums' of various types, there will be such a turn-about that heads will spin," opined the optimistic California native. "This easily could be the next Age of Enligtenment!"
